A volunteer. A sibling. An introduction. An idea. A HUGE impact.
We are incredibly grateful to Viva Medicine at Florida International University (FIU) for their extraordinary support of the St. John Bosco Clinic and the patients we serve at our healthcare charity in Miami.
Founded in 2025, Viva Medicine was created to prepare students for careers in healthcare through service, education, and hands-on experience. Their recent fundraising effort to support and donate to healthcare access far exceeded expectations and showcased the incredible impact of service-minded students.
This healthcare phi
lanthropy initiative was spearheaded by Richard Amaro, a recent pre-med graduate whose connection to St. John Bosco Clinic runs deep. Inspired in part by his sister’s experience as a clinic volunteer through the University of Miami’s Department of Community Service (DOCS) program, Richard set out to make a difference for the uninsured patients we serve. Richard and fellow Viva Medicine leader and pre-med student Shadrach Waugh visited the clinic to see the mission in action first-hand. They felt the warmth and genuine desire to help the patients, and they wanted to contribute.
What began as a fundraising goal of $500 quickly grew into an extraordinary achievement, with Viva Medicine raising $13,874 in support of our mission to serve the basic primary medical needs of the uninsured and underserved children and adults in Miami-Dade County at our Miami healthcare nonprofit.
This remarkable accomplishment reflects not only the generosity of the students involved, but also their commitment to compassionate care, community service, and improving access to healthcare for those in need.
